Actors

The following are actors whose on screen performances will be remembered for years to come. Whether it’s lead or supporting, these talented gentlemen have raised the bar for others to live up to. I’m judging by the movies I’ve seen this year, I haven’t seen A Single Man yet so I’m not able to include Colin Firth at this point. Here’s my list of 10 greatest actors of 2009, after the jump…

  1. Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man)
  2. Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart)
  3. Morgan Freeman (Invictus)
  4. Woody Harrelson (Zombieland)
  5. Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker)
  6. Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds)
  7. Robert De Niro (Everybody’s Fine)
  8. Sam Rockwell (Moon)
  9. Daniel Day-Lewis (Nine)
  10. Hal Holbrook (That Evening Sun)

Other Worthy Contenders:

Tobey Maguire (Brothers)
George Clooney (Up In The Air)
Matt Damon (The Informant)
Viggo Mortensen (The Road)
Nicolas Cage (Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans)

Haven’t seen NINE but Daniel Day Lewis deserves it for THERE WILL BE BLOOD anyway haha

What about Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino? Or Liam Neeson in Taken?

  2. Rama says:

I’m sorry to break this to you my friend, but Gran Torino was last year’s movie
Liam Neeson was badass in Taken. No doubt. In fact, Liam Neeson is badass in everything he does… but his role in Taken wasn’t an award worthy performance.

  3. Moviebuff says:

Sheesh… I’m sorry. For some reason I was thinking Best Actors of the “Decade”.

You’re absolutely right. As far as Liam Neeson not doing an award worthy performance… I wasn’t aware THAT was a criteria. You simply say “The following are actors whose on screen performances will be remembered for years to come. Whether it’s lead or supporting…”. No where did you say it had to be Oscar worthy. I thought Neeson’s performance IS a performance that will be remembered for years to come.

  4. Rama says:

you gave a good argument there my friend..

but for some reason I can’t help but think.. that Liam Neeson’s character could be like.. Jason Bourne in his later years… or an older version of John McLane.
Not that Liam Neeson did bad,.. it’s just that I wouldn’t consider necessarily a great performance… a badass once yes,.. not one of this year’s greatest.
