AMAZING GRACE Review

Posted by Rama On February - 26 - 2007

This is a movie not just with Christian themes but themes of morality and what is considered just and humane.

It’s sad to know that America took longer time to follow what England accomplished decades earlier.

I often have trouble understanding the storyline of movies with thick and heavy English accent cause that’s when I really need subtitles badly.. just like when I watch Harry Potter.

The acting performance of every one of the actor and actress in this movie is superb.. these British actors must have been experts from Shakespearean theater.

This is not a movie about the song alone.. it’s a movie about the true struggle of a man to make a difference.. a man who knew well the songwriter of the famous hymn… a man of peace who will always be celebrated in history.

THE NUMBER 23 Review

Posted by Rama On February - 26 - 2007

Jim Carrey is trying out a horror flick.. and it’s not that bad.

It’s more of a thriller/horror actually because it messes a lot with our minds.. every time we’re trying to figure out the storyline, we get mistaken.. again.

It’s sorta hard to take Jim Carrey seriously, because we still remember him as a funny guy Ace Ventura…but I guess he wants to show the world that he’s an actor of wide range of capabilities.

The concept of ‘the number 23′ is pretty intense… but.. this movie could still do better.. because at times you find the lines are a bit cheesy.

BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA

Posted by Rama On February - 26 - 2007

I have never read the novel.. so I was expecting something of a Narnia kinda feel movie… but what I got was even more..

This movie is definitely for family and children to see.. not so much cause it’s a fantasy movie… but it is a heartfelt movie about friendship… It is probably one of the best movies out there that deals with friendship.

It has God themes which encourage room for debate and open-mind.

It’s amazing to think what could be possible if we would just let our imaginations run wild.

I highly recommend this movie.. go see it with your loved ones, it will strengthen relationships and I’m not talking about valentine-type of relationship.

GHOST RIDER Review

Posted by Rama On February - 26 - 2007

Anyone who thinks that Nicolas Cage is perfect to play a superhero let alone a dark and gloomy one.. is fooling himself.

The first hour of this movie is kinda cool… the stunts, the scary images of the bad guys and its thematic elements..o and the bike.

but the last hour of this film turns silly and way too predictable.

The best part of this film is Eva Mendez.. she’s the real fire…she’s even way too hot for ghost riders’ bike.

BREACH

Posted by Rama On February - 26 - 2007

It’s a pretty good thriller

though I think Ryan Phillipe could improve his acting skills a bit.. a.k.a. practice some more.. he needs to take into account that he’s lucky enough to work alongside a veteran actor heavyweight class Chris Cooper.

But other than that, the story feels even more harrowing because of the fact it’s based on true accounts

and when it comes to movies like this.. it’s always fun to see how the real people end up today as it is being explained right after the end scene.

NORBIT

Posted by Rama On February - 15 - 2007

This film goes to show that hands down.. Eddie Murphy is a talented actor.. for a black man to play an Asian is just.. it’s just freakin’ hilarious… it’s more hilarious than the fat wife, who is also played by Eddie Murphy.

I wasn’t expecting that it was a bit of a chick-flick too.

but most times… the jokes or the humor, or punch lines don’t sound original.. they often come across as trying too hard and they remind you of other jokes from different movies in the past.

It’s interesting to see how the setting or the town where the film supposedly take place is Universal Backlot.. it all seems familiar now that I’ve been there too many times.

HANNIBAL RISING

Posted by Rama On February - 15 - 2007

I’m a big fan of all Hannibal Lecter series! so I’m probably gonna be a bit bias on this one.

This is almost just as good as its predecessors…

the young Hannibal,.. thought his eastern-Europe accent got in the way at times… is still as menacing and evil and diabolically intelligent as the one portrayed by Anthony Hopkins.

I don’t care what other critics say… this film is only for the fans of the series. And if you have trouble getting through the violence level in this movie.. then you probably shouldn’t watch it in the first place.

ERAGON

I was expecting a movie that was gonna suck big time..
but instead… I was mistaken.

Some of the scenes and visual effects were actually pretty stunning..
when the rider was flying fast with his dragon.. it felt like a roller coaster ride… I was quite impressed!

It’s amazing how CGI and technology for films are getting more real and real these days.. you can hardly tell the difference.

FREEDOM WRITERS

Posted by Rama On February - 15 - 2007

This movie… Inspires!!

True story never felt so truer…

In my country.. it was school against school rather than races… It was more of religions rather than colors.. but stupidity of all the fights and unnecessary deaths were similar.

The whole cast of people who play all the classmates are just as good performers as Hillary Swank is.

This movie gives me a better appreciation for teachers and educators and what they have to go through everyday..
Teaching is a noble job.. it’s not a well-paying job, but it’s a very noble job.
It is interesting to see how today’s bloggings may fully replace the good ol’ hand-written diaries or journals.
you need to not miss ‘Freedom Writers’ while it’s still in theaters everywhere.

ALPHA DOG

Posted by Rama On February - 15 - 2007

This is a story based on a true story but using other names.

The best part of this movie is the acting performance of Ben Foster as the older brother who owes money resulting in his younger brother being kidnapped by the one he owes money to.

I like how the filmmaker of this movie makes it in a form sorta like a documentary at times.. by using what it seems to be a re-enactment of the interviews done on the witnesses and persons involved.

Overall.. it’s a pretty interestingly made movie…
I was fascinated by the rich lifestyle that some of those characters enjoyed.
and Justin Timberlake surprisingly did very well… he must have hired a really talented acting coach to train him.
