Nicolas Cage, an actor who is better at doing drama (Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, Matchstick Men) than action or horror movies (Ghost Rider, Wicker Man, Gone in 60 Seconds)
He’s a very talented actor, no doubt… but action movie star, I doubt.

The concept of this story is quite intriguing, considering many of us have seen or heard tales of people who can see the future,

but only a few of us or maybe just the author of the book on which this movie is based, who can come up with a tale of a man who sees the future only as far as two or three minutes ahead and nothing more.

It’s an okay action movie.. nothing awesome or spectacular or anything like that! just.. okay.

It’s pretty cool to see how he dodges bullets and every danger that lurks around the corner..
in a way it almost seems like he has spidey sense.

but then again, it’s Nicolas Cage, ..the last time he was cool was when the awesome Sean Connery was working with him in the movie ‘The Rock’.

THE INVISIBLE Review

Posted by Rama On April - 30 - 2007

Boy was I fooled! From the trailer, it seemed like it was going to be one of those non-stop thriller mixed with supernatural abilities.

But this movie’s trailer doesn’t really share the storyline.

Nobody expects this to be a film that tells of how one kid tries to fix communication problem with his mom.

The filmmaker tried to put in elements of drama and relationship into the bowl and it came up short..

It’s cheesy and often times very, very annoying.

Don’t waste your time and money on this one.. I don’t even recommend watching it on DVD.

IN THE LAND OF WOMEN

Posted by Rama On April - 24 - 2007

okay.. don’t chastise me for saying this.. but..

This is a very interesting movie!!

I was never a fan of chick flicks, but I figured if I just tried to sit through this one, I might just learn something..
and I did.

This movie is not just for girls or couples to see.. I think guys need to check it out as well.

What’s it about? it’s about being a good listener, it’s about being there for your loved one, it’s about waking up to reality and stop blaming yourself and others for what happened in the past. It’s about moving on.
although Adam Brody, Kristen Stewart and Meg Ryan all give excellent screen performances… the writing is what gives meaning to this story.

VACANCY Review

Posted by Rama On April - 24 - 2007

It has enough scare to keep you on the edge of your seat.

But the story has flaws. I’m not sure exactly why the killers take their time before they get to do what they intend on doing.

Overall, I think it’s quite an effective horror/suspense film, but it could’ve been better, it could’ve had more fast-paced scenes thrown into the whole line of sequences.

It kinda gives you the creeps though to think that it might just happen in the next creepy motel that you might get stranded in.

FRACTURE Review

Posted by Rama On April - 22 - 2007

Bravo for the performances of the great Sir Anthony Hopkins and the rising star Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling.

Seeing these two actors battling each other in the game of justice and crime thrills the very core of movie-viewing experience.

it’s all about the characters and a very well-written script.

One is a cocky DA lawyer and one is a cocky old genius.

‘Fracture’ will leave you cheering for both the good guy and the bad guy.

You’ll try to guess and guess but you’ll never get it until it explains itself so well that you’ll find yourself amazed or in awe.

Spellbinding!! Definitely one of the greatest thriller films I’ve seen in my entire life. Go watch it! you’ll see what I mean :)

THE HOAX Review

Posted by Rama On April - 22 - 2007

Liar, liar pants on fire! we’ve heard of that so many times in our lives, it drives some of us crazy.

‘The Hoax’ is about an outrageous true story woven by the mastermind liar named Clifford Irving played by Richard Gere
He tricked the world into thinking that he wrote an official autobiography of the billionaire Howard Hughes just to make fast money.

some of the scenes make you want to cringe because he almost got caught. You find yourself feeling sorry for the characters.

as far as storyline goes.. It is funny, it is tragic,.. it is outrageous, it is clever. This film is very entertaining just as much as it is ironic.

One lie leads to another, and that other lie leads to the fall of a presidency.. whose job description includes telling lies
admit it.. sometimes we lie so much, we can’t even tell which side is up anymore.

HOT FUZZ Review

Posted by Rama On April - 21 - 2007

Now this is a very, bloody, hilarious movie! It’s got good action sequences too.

This is the kinda movie that’s more fun to watch in theaters than on DVD.

A very skilled cop has been assigned to work in what it seems to be a quiet village until he discovers that murder after murder has been going on for quite some time, but everybody else doesn’t think the same.

It has appearances from many famous British actors, including the former James Bond: Timothy Dalton and Oscar Winner Jim Broadbent.

The cinematography or the camera work might seem a bit dizzying at times.. but it seems like that’s the in thing right now in action movies, for example ‘Bourne Supremacy’.

‘Hot Fuzz’ is this season’s real deal!

PERFECT STRANGER

Posted by Rama On April - 15 - 2007

Bloody Hell.. look, I’m a big fan of Bruce Willis, but I am very disappointed in all his recent films for the past three years or so (Hostage, 16 Blocks) and now this..

As far as acting goes, Halle Berry and Giovani Ribisi are on the winning line.

you can’t argue with Halle’s sex appeal though.. she’s still got it!

Halle Berry plays a journalist whose friend is found dead. He goes undercover to investigate her next big story and hunt down the advertising mogul, played by Bruce Willis. With the help of her friend (Giovani Ribisi), she finds that this particular investigative journalism is much more complicated and darker than her usual stories.

The direction of the film was a bit unorganized.. but I guess that’s how it is with films that have one too many twist endings.

the story’s predictable.. no matter how badly this movie tries to keep us guessing, we could somehow know what might happen next and still get it right.
There’s too many twists going on, it’s not well crafted and it becomes borderline silly.

This is a thriller that’ll make you yawn.. in fact.. I kinda wish I hadn’t paid to see it.
