Samuel Jackson as Sho 'Nuff in THE LAST DRAGON Remake

The Last Dragon

Damn, this is an old movie that I never visited again after watching once years ago and ya know what.. I can barely remember the scenes too. Maybe I was too caught up in other better less silly classic martial art movies. But since according Hollywood Reporter, Columbia Pictures is going do a remake of Berry Gordy’s 1985 cult hit THE LAST DRAGON, I’m sure as hell going to go out and rent the original again. The word goes that Samuel L. mothaF*in’ Jackson is set to play Sho ‘Nuff, originally played by the late Julius Carry, he’s the baddest mofo lowdown around town and everybody say “sho nuff”

The updated plot will be along the same lines of the original, centering on young martial arts student Leroy Green in his quest through the streets of New York to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, known as the Last Dragon. Those who achieve the high ranking possess the Glow, making them the greatest fighter alive.
Instead of the old skool 80s beat, The remake will have that hip hop juice running through its veins. Dallas Jackson, the head of the urban family label DJ Classicz, is writing the script. Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA is co-producing.

Spielberg's Five Friends

Posted by Rama On October - 30 - 2008

Remember the video of a bunch of celebrities asking us NOT to vote as part of the reverse psychology ad to get you to vote instead. The great director Steven Spielberg has done something similar featuring all his favorite stars but the only comic relief, in my opinion, in this one is Borat. How influential is star power in getting people to the voting booth?

TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern-day love story between a teenage girl and a vampire. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother re-marries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met. Edward is a vampire, but he doesn’t have fangs and his family is unique in that they choose not to drink human blood. Intelligent and witty, Edward sees straight into Bella’s soul. Soon, they are swept up in a passionate, thrilling and unorthodox romance. To Edward, Bella is what he has waited 90 years for – a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward & Bella do when a clan of new vampires – James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre) – come to town and threaten to disrupt their way of life?

XXX: Xander Cage Returns in 2010

XXX

Last month, it was announced that Vin Diesel will team up again with director Rob Cohen for the third installment of XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE, holy crap! Is there a lamer title than that?
and now, Collider, via Omelette had the confirmation from Rob Cohen about the project.

“Yes, they’re doing it with me and producer Joe Roth,” he confirmed. “We made the deal recently, it’s named ‘xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.’ We met the writers yesterday and we’re trying to get into production by late spring, to have it out for the summer of 2010.”

With the third installment of FAST AND FURIOUS opening next year, and then the next Riddick movie that Vin Diesel has always wanted to do, and then this crapola… he might as well go and do THE PACIFIER 2 while he’s at it.
Is that man short on cash?, cause I’m willing to give him some of my money if it would stop him from doing any unnecessary sequels.

PREACH It, Sam Mendes!

Preacher

Sacrilegious and Hollywood go hand in hand (read my article on Sacrilegious movies) and it’s not stopping any time soon. In fact, Hollywood is taking on what is considered to be a Sacrilegious horrorfest. PREACHER is a graphic novel series from Vertigo which ran from 1995 – 2000, created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and I looked up Wikipedia and o man, the plot is pretty blasphemous, so if you’re quite sensitive, you might not wanna read this part…

it’s about Jesse Custer, a down-and-out preacher in the small Texas town of Annville. Custer was accidentally possessed by the supernatural creature named Genesis in an incident which killed his entire congregation and flattened his church.

Custer, driven by a strong sense of right and wrong, goes on a journey across the United States attempting to (literally) find God, who abandoned Heaven the moment Genesis was born, to hold him accountable for negligence. He also begins to discover the truth about his new powers, which allow him to command the obedience of those who hear his words. He is joined by his old girlfriend Tulip O’Hare, as well as a hard-drinking Irish vampire named Cassidy.
Preacher
During the course of their journeys, the three encounter enemies and obstacles both sacred and profane, including: the Saint of Killers, an invincible, quick-drawing, perfect-aiming, come-lately Angel of Death answering only to the authority of God Himself; a serial-killer called the ‘Reaver-Cleaver’; The Grail, a secret organization controlling the governments of the world and protecting the bloodline of Jesus;

According to Hollywood Reporter, Columbia Pictures has bought the rights to this popular comic book series and will have Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition) to direct the movie adaptation. No writer has been hired to do the script yet.

Apparently at one point, HBO wanted to make a series based on this, the lame director Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil, Ghost Rider) wrote the pilot but the project never took off.
And a previous movie version was actually produced by Kevin Smith’s View Askew with James Marsden attached to star as the lead character but alas, that didn’t happen either.
Hopefully, third time’s the charm. Once again, I’m a open-minded liberal, so this kinda thing makes me curious even more, as long as it doesn’t end up similar to Keanu Reeves’ Constantine.

Twilight's Pattinson gone DALI

Dali

MTV got some exclusive images from the movie LITTLE ASHES starring Robert Pattinson of the upcoming teen flick TWILIGHT. In this movie, he plays young Salvador Dali, the eccentric painter with the most ridiculous mustache. Will those crazy teen fans still think Robert Pattinson is hot after seeing him with this look? By the way, this movie is different than Al Pacino’s Salvador Dali biopic titled DALI & I: THE SURREAL STORY co-starring Cilian Murphy.

Salvador Dali

According to IMDB, this is the plot of the movie..
In 1922, Madrid is wavering on the edge of change as traditional values are challenged by the dangerous new influences of Jazz, Freud and the avant-garde. Salvador Dali arrives at the university; 18 years old and determined to become a great artist. His bizarre blend of shyness and rampant exhibitionism attracts the attention of two of the university’s social elite – Federico Garcia Lorca and Luis Bunel. Salvador is absorbed into their decadent group and for a time Salvador, Luis and Federico become a formidable trio, the most ultra-modern group in Madrid. However as time passes, Salvador feels and increasingly strong pull towards the charismatic Federico – who is himself oblivious of the attentions he is getting from his beautiful writer friends, Margarita. Finaly, in the face of his friends’ preoccupations – and Federico’s growing renown as a poet – Luis sets off for Paris in search of his own artistic success. Federico and Salvador spend the holiday in the sea-side town of Cadaques. Both the idyllic surroundings and the warmth of the Dali family sweep Federico off his feet. Salvador and he draw closer, sharing their deepest beliefs, inspirations and secrets, convinced that they have found a kind of friendship undreamt of by others. It is more that a meeting of the minds; it is a fusion of souls. And then one night, in the phosphorescent water, it becomes something else.

THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL: 5 Minute Trailer

The Day The Earth Stood Still

Yahoo has this new 5 minute trailer for THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, it’s more or less the same as the footage/clip we’ve seen last month but this one does contain some new brief scenes including a good look this new version of Gort, the freakishly large alien that makes X-Men’s Cyclops look like a joke.
I guess the assumption of this movie is,.. if human race dies and the earth survives,.. humans could exist again through the natural process of evolution.
Do you think this movie’s going to be the motherload of all pre-apocalyptic movies?

More Spy Photos: SHERLOCK HOLMES

Sherlock Holmes

Via TheBadandugly, here are some more photos taken from the set of SHERLOCK HOLMES starring Robert Downey Jr. with his British accent as the famous fictional detective and Jude Law with creepy mustache as the sidekick Dr. Watson. The photos also show director Guy Ritchie making sure everything goes okay for the filming which is currently being done in Manchester, England, home of my favorite Rock band ever, OASIS. It’s amazing how Guy Ritchie seems at ease, it’s as if his recent divorce with Madonna was nothing but a bump on the road. It baffles me how movie people could take marriage for granted,.. but this is not a gossip website so I’m not going to go into that matter.

Sherlock Holmes

Robert Downey Jr. brings the legendary detective to life as he has never been portrayed before. Jude Law stars as Holmes’ trusted colleague, Watson, a doctor and war veteran who is a formidable ally for Sherlock Holmes. Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, the only woman ever to have bested Holmes and who has maintained a tempestuous relationship with the detective. Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood. Kelly Reilly will play Watson’s love interest, Mary.

Christopher Nolan's Favorite TDK Scene

Posted by Rama On October - 29 - 2008

The Dark Knight

We’ve read the first part of the interview and now on the second part, Christopher Nolan told LA TIMES his favorite scene from The Dark Knight, and it didn’t take a genius to figure out that it’s ‘The Interrogation’ scene. Some say that it’s just as iconic as when Al Pacino confronted De Niro at the restaurant in the thriller Heat.
Christopher Nolan elaborated to the very detail about filming that whole scene and what it meant to him, I’ve always known The Dark Knight is such a great movie because of its depth but Nolan understood the characters like no one else. And I have much respect for Bale and the late great Ledger for successfully pulling the whole thing together.
Read the full article HERE, and I’ve posted some excerpts of what he said…

“Neither [Christian Bale nor Heath Ledger] wanted to go too far with it in rehearsal. They had to rehearse some of the fight choreography, but even with that, we tried to keep it loose and improvisational. They wanted to save it all. We were all pretty excited to get on with a big chunk of dialogue and this big intense scene between these two iconic characters. It was quite bizarre to see Batman across the table across from the Joker [laughs].”

For me creatively, that had been about inverting the expectation. We’ve all seen so many of these dark movie interrogation scenes where somebody is being given the third degree. We just wanted to completely flip that on its head. And have the bright, harsh, bleak light sort show you the Joker’s make-up and its decay. The Batsuit was redesigned for this film. And unlike the suit that we had in “Batman Begins,” it’s capable of really being shown in incredible detail and still hold up to that kind of scrutiny under that bright light. The suit looked much more real and more like a functional thing this time. The whole scene was about showing something real and brutal and getting this real harshness.

The Dark Knight

“By the end of the scene, when [Batman] is just pounding on the Joker, I think Heath managed to find the exact essence of the threat of the Joker and who he is: He’s being pounded in the face and he’s laughing and loving it. There’s nothing you can do. As he tells Batman, ‘You have nothing to do with all of your strength’…When he drops the Joker, he has realized the futility of what he’s done.” There’s this sort of impotence of the strong and the armored and the very muscular Batman; he’s very powerful, but there’s no useful way for this power to be exercised in this scene. He has to confront that.

Now that Director Christopher Nolan has revealed his favorite scene..

What’s your favorite scene from THE DARK KNIGHT??
