It’s been a long weekend. Literally. You think I got rest this memorial weekend? It was far from rest, my friend. Things happen every minute. I almost missed this one.
The 9 minute promo of John Woo’s passionate big budget project RED CLIFF hit the web. It was first revealed at the Cannes Film Festival.
No word yet on when this will arrive in U.S. theaters but here’s the thing, it’s four hours long and it comes in two episodes. Maybe they’ll condense it into one only for the audiences here.
But heck, it’s John Woo. as long as it’s got John Woo’s typical bloody action choreography, count me in for 5 or 6 hours even.
The story is based on Chinese history in the 2nd and 3rd Century, during which China split into three kingdoms following the fall of Han Dynasty, and after decades of war and peace, reunified under a new dynasty, Jin. It tells of a battle fought with over one million men in 208 AD.
It’s the biggest budget Chinese films ever. Chinese everywhere should be proud of that fact alone.
