I’m probably the only straight man who doesn’t hate and trash the upcoming sequel project HAIRSPRAY 2. I just thought the first movie was fun to watch, is it a crime to like it? However, I do think liking THE SPIRIT should be considered a felony.
At one point there was talk that in the sequel, Zac Effron’s character would go through a psychedelic ride as he experiments with acid of the 1960s and he has a trippy conversation with his acne on his forehead.
Ridiculous? I know… but I’ve had friends who used to like taking acid and talking to acnes would be the least of some of the weird things they’d do.
But director Adam Shankman talked to MTV recently and gave out some plot details. I’ll just list them out on bullet points.
* Zac Effron might not talk to his acne anymore but his encounter with drugs would be accidental.
* Brittany Murphy and Michelle Pfeiffer won’t return as the villains
* The rumor about John Travolta doesn’t do sequel is not fully true because he’d reprise his role if the story is funny enough.
* John Travolta’s character, Edna, will get hooked on diet pills
* The working title might be HAIRSPRAY 2: WHITE LIPSTICK
* Vietnam War will be the backdrop, but Zac Efron won’t get drafted.
* The film will hit theaters in mid-July 2010
