Time for another who gets to list their top 10 Best movies of 2008. I’m grateful that American Film Institute awarded my favorite method actor, Al Pacino, a Lifetime Achievement Award last year but I’m disappointed that they didn’t include Slumdog Millionaire as their top 10 Best movies this year, via Variety. However, the reason is understandable.. after all, it is called American Film Institute, underline the word ‘American’. One of AFI’s criteria is that a film has “significant creative and/or production elements from the United States.” Very patriotic, at the same time, it’s a bit unfair and too exclusive.
Other casualties of that criteria are Revolutionary Road, The Reader, and Doubt.
Here are the titles that made it in the list, Do you agree with all of them or do you have objections? I for one don’t think Benjamin Button is better than The Dark Knight… and I know Iron Man is an awesome movie but it doesn’t deserve to be in any top 10 list of the year, surely not even in a rank higher than Milk.
This list is whacked!
1. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
2. The Dark Knight
3. Frost/Nixon
4. Frozen River
5. Gran Torino
6. Iron Man
7. Milk
8. Wall-E
9. Wendy and Lucy
10. The Wrestler
