Last year, the man who’s about to win another Oscar for WALL-E, Andrew Stanton was announced that he will handle JOHN CARTER OF MARS for his next project, based on the character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, “the story revolves around a Civil War veteran who retreats into a cave to avoid capture by Apache Indians. He takes an otherworldly turn as he’s transported via time portal to the planet of Barsoom and taken prisoner by 12-foot-tall green men. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior”
He spoke to Sci-Fi Wire and revealed briefly how the process is coming along so far..
- It will be live action but with plenty of CG injection because of the creatures in the story
- The runtime will not be more than 2 hours long
- It’s not a Pixar project but it’s being done by Disney because the story is not meant for all ages.
- He’s started looking for actors
- Slated for release in 2012
I’m not sure distancing himself from Pixar is a good idea? I mean.. can’t Pixar help out and make a live action feature film too? It’s just that.. it’s got such a great track record, it’d be wise to have such an awesome company to back your project.
