Nobody seems to like Tim Burton’s version of PLANET OF THE APES back in 2001. Most would even consider it a disaster but I thought at least the visual effects and the make-up/costumes were quite impressive. I can only imagine the long hours the actors took just to look like apes. Mark Wahlberg certainly got the easiest job of the bunch.
Should Fox make another PLANET OF THE APES Movie? Would it be profitable to revisit the franchise? Those are the ape questions of the century.
According to CHUD, they might think of.. Not a sequel to Tim Burton’s fiasco and not a remake of the first movie.
It’s going to be a remake of the 1972 film CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES… and just like any spin-off/prequel movies out there, this is about the rise of the monkeys from mere beasts to conquerors and kings of the world while we mankind become the slaves.
The script is said to be called GENESIS: APES written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the story is set in modern day instead of dystopian future, about a talking ape named Caesar, the ape who said no, the first ape with speech who started the rebellion and unite the apes to overthrow humans.
Planet of the Apes movies always have that underlining theme about politics, equality and other controversy, which is probably why this franchise still got a following today.
But seriously though… would you wanna see another PLANET OF THE APES Movie?? I’d see it for the laugh.
Between you and me, I think Fox is too busy making spin-off movies of X-MEN Characters.
