John August To Write PREACHER and FRANKENWEENIE

AugustLast year, Sam Mendes talked about the announcement of him directing the adaptation of THE PREACHER based on the graphic novel that has officially captured my attention, he said that he’d love to direct the project but there was no script. Well, Mr. Mendes.. you can rest easy now and go back to making love to your wife Kate Winslet because a writer has been hired.

According to Variety, Scribe John August (the dude in the picture on the left) will adapt PREACHER for Columbia Pictures.
He’s the dude who was supposed to write the script for Captain Marvel movie, SHAZAM! but then announced that the project was dead. His resume’s pretty solid, thanks to previous collaborations with the visionary director Tim Burton (Big Fish, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride), according to HollywoodReporter, he’s also set to write Tim Burton’s upcoming project, FRANKENWEENIE. A stop motion animation 3D project, in the same spirit as Corpse Bride, about a man who brings his dog back to life after it is killed by a car. The movie’s scheduled for release in 2011.

All this makes him more than qualified to handle PREACHER project which happens to require a certain disturbed imagination skills.
it’s about Jesse Custer, a down-and-out preacher in the small Texas town of Annville. Custer was accidentally possessed by the supernatural creature named Genesis in an incident which killed his entire congregation and flattened his church.
Custer, driven by a strong sense of right and wrong, goes on a journey across the United States attempting to (literally) find God, who abandoned Heaven the moment Genesis was born, to hold him accountable for negligence. He also begins to discover the truth about his new powers, which allow him to command the obedience of those who hear his words. He is joined by his old girlfriend Tulip O’Hare, as well as a hard-drinking Irish vampire named Cassidy. They encounter all types of saint killers along the way.
See why this got me curious?! Just imagine the visual on the big screen.
Leo DiCaprio would be perfect for the lead role. Anyone second the motion?
