No trailers yet but Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and Steven Soderbergh all implied that James Cameron’s upcoming movie AVATAR is gonna rock our socks off, hinting that this 3D sci-fi epic could be the monumental achievement that the world of cinema has been waiting for in the last few decades. But other than their words and some set or scanned images, there’s not much we know about AVATAR, at least not enough to determine how awesome it’s going to be but IMAX is willing to bet on it.
According to The New York Times, IMAX might be giving AVATAR an 11 week run (almost 3 months) starting from its opening date on December 18th, 2009 all the way until the opening of Tim Burton’s 3D new take on ALICE IN WONDERLAND on March 5th, 2010.
The Dark Knight had 10 weeks in IMAX and it was a great run. I don’t like how STAR TREK was shown in IMAX when it was no different than watching it on conventional screen. I think if a movie is not filmed with IMAX cameras and doesn’t serve the giant screen to its fullest extent, then it has no place in IMAX theaters at all. Preach it, Aziz Ansari!
