If the film doesn’t succeed, at least AVATAR will still be talked about for years to come because of the technology involved in the process. Fox has released this new featurette, via Hulu, that shows the making of a scene where Jake’s avatar (Sam Worthington) has his first banshee flight with Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), director James Cameron says this is his favorite part of the movie. You’ll see in split screen how the actors perform with their suit complete with markers all over and the CG result of their work at the same time.
But this behind the scenes clip also gives you an closer look at how they’d capture the facial expressions because when it comes down to it, even Cameron understands that a film lives and breathes on that aspect.
On another note, along the same line, AVATAR is officially rated PG-13 for ‘intense epic battle sequences and warfare, sensuality, language and some smoking’. Wow, smoking is now emphasized, interesting. They should add ‘lots of blue’ in that statement, just to be fair. Check out the featurette after this jump…
