So many movies got so many crazy twists and turns these days just to add to the shock value but this one is a real show stopper. As you know by now the inevitable will always happen and that includes BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 which will be directed by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour movies)
At one point rumor had it that the new installment will be PG-13, which was so uncool, but then Ratner guaranteed it will be hardcore R.
One of the screenwriters, Michael Brandt talked to CineFools explaining the difficulty that they’ve been going through with coming up with a decent story for the movie and get it approved by the Studio. From one draft to another and then another. He also revealed that he and his co-writer Derek Haas are just going to settle with using an old script of theirs titled DYING DAY and simply say Abakadabra and retool it into BEVERLY HILLS COP 4. So what’s the plot?
“ It was kind of a buddy cop thing set in LA with buddy FBI agents- but it wasn’t jokey at all, it was pretty hardcore. Everybody died in the end and it was the kind of movie/script that everybody who read it really liked but nobody was ever going to make.. Too dark. And [Paramount] said they would like to turn Dying Day into Beverly Hills Cop 4. We could kind of see how that could work and we said that sounds great and we were all for it and we’ll tell you where to send the cheque and the studios said no we want to bring you guys in to do some work on it and turn it into BHCP4. So we agreed and Brett Ratner came on to direct and we did our first draft of that and while it has gotten farther and farther away from our original script we’re kind of in between drafting that and a second draft coming up in a month or so.’’
Notice he said “Everybody died in the end”.. so does that mean they’re going to kill off Eddie Murphy‘s iconic character Axel Foley. Frankly I think after they should’ve closed the chapter on the franchise after the second movie because the third one was just horrid.
BEVERLY HILLS COP is supposed to be action/comedy, what fun would it be if everybody died in the end?! A bit too morbid if you ask me.
