In a recent USA TODAY article, it was revealed that screenwriting team behind 3:10 To Yuma, Wanted and the upcoming The A-Team, scribes Derek Haas and Michael Brandt is going to pen the screenplay for the movie version of ALIEN LEGION, which will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney. The script is currently in its third rewrite…
ALIEN LEGION was created by Carl Potts, it was a popular ’80s Epic Comic book about the members of a military unit called Force Nomad, composed of the “dregs of the universe” and similar to the French Foreign Legion. The cast includes leader Sarigar, whose lower half is serpentine, fully humanoid Torie Montroc, Jugger Grimrod, and a Thraxian.
In 1983 Epic launched the first of several Alien Legion mini-series and one-shots.
Potts sees the movie as a potential franchise, I’m sure that’s what Bruckheimer also has in mind, otherwise he wouldn’t invest a dime in this at all.
“Bruckheimer’s never done a science-fiction before, so that challenge, I think, is something that would hold his interest. The success they’ve had with blending CGI and live-action characters in The Pirates of the Caribbean series could translate easily to an Alien Legion film.”
“Legion is painted on an immense canvas, and today’s effects can really carry that off. The themes and characters have a lot of depth and resonance, and ultimately that’s what storytelling is about. Good stories are always good stories.”
