I know, it’s easy to assume this has anything to do with Texas Chainsaw Massacre but THE TEXAS KILLING FIELDS was once a project that director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) was circling. It’s nothing like the destiny themed mumbai brothers story, this one is hella dark, it’s about… “two cops who realize that the latest murder in their jurisdiction connects their case to the notorious killing fields murders. The killing field murders concern four bodies that were found in the same place in Texas — along Interstate 45 near Calder Road in League City.”
As we know, Boyle will now tackle the story of Aron Ralston, the American mountain climber who self-amputated part of his arm when it was pinned in a 2003 back-country hiking accident, the movie is said to not have any dialogue in its first hour.
Boyle told MTV a while back that THE TEXAS KILLING FIELD script was fantastic but it was so dark it would never get made. I can’t believe that an Oscar winning filmmaker like Boyle could such a discouraging thing like that, I expected more confidence from him.
So Panjiba heard some development on THE TEXAS KILLING FIELDS but take this as a rumor for now.
According to the website, the great Michael Mann (Heat) is producing the project and his daughter Ami Mann might direct. She was the second unit director on Heat and the now dead project Racing the Monsoon
They say Bradley Cooper, star of the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time (The Hangover) and the rising Aussie star Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar, Clash Of The Titans) are attached to THE TEXAS KILLING FIELDS.
For now take this info with grain of salt until confirmation arrives but I think Cooper collaborating with Worthington is not a shabby idea at all, if they choose their gigs well and they play their cards right, these two actors could be like the Clooney and Damon of the next decade, showing up in one top quality movie after another.
But I think this is a story too heavy for an inexperienced director to handle.
