The Twilight Saga: NEW MOON is the third all time best opening weekend movie domestically and it has won the first throne again in its second weekend bringing the worldwide total to $473 Million as of today. The third installment, ECLIPSE, directed by David Slade will open next summer but there’s still no sign if Summit will greenlight the fourth adaptation, BREAKING DAWN. You would think that with all this profit, they’d jump into the opportunity without even thinking about it. But a Variety article explains that the movie might come in 2 parts and Producer Wyck Godfrey said they have “every intention to make BREAKING DAWN”, read more and watch the video after this jump…
The article says Summit is thinking about making BREAKING DAWN into 2 movies, much like THE HOBBIT and HARRY POTTER 7. No solid decision yet, they’re just circling the idea, in fact they haven’t ordered screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to write either 1 or 2 scripts. Apparently, Summit is trying to get director Chris Weitz to return and direct BREAKING DAWN. But making it into 2 movies also means re-opening negotiation, getting approval from author Stephenie Meyer, I don’t think she would mind, and the biggest problem is that the actors especially the lead: Taylor Lautner, Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are only locked in for 4 movies, this means Summit would have to raise those actors’ paychecks for the 2nd part of BREAKING DAWN.
Yup, that’s right, those 3 individuals are richer than Zeus.. Life is not fair, tell me something I don’t know.
So there you go, whether or not Summit is willing to pay them more and whether or not Chris Weitz wants to return are currently the 2 obstacles to BREAKING DAWN movie.
Weitz is recently attached to THE GARDENER, a project that’s also housed at Summit, so the studio might use this to their advantage by not closing the deal yet on THE GARDENER so that Weitz could have time working on BREAKING DAWN but would Weitz take the bait?
Until the movie gets made, in the meantime,.. enjoy the hilarious spoof of BREAKING DAWN ala G4.
On another note, TheMakingOf had a chat with producer Wyck Godfrey who in this very brief clip said that they are about to embark on BREAKING DAWN…
