And the actor to play the patriotic hero in Marvel’s THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA is… no one knows yet. One rumor after another was shot down, from Matthew McConaughey, Will Smith, Channing Tatum, even that dude from American Gladiator. But Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada shared a bit of what he knows so far, at the recent Big Apple Comic-Con Q&A, via Screenrant and it was not about the casting, it was about what he thought of the screenplay, and you might wanna hear this…
“I’ve seen a couple of outlines and an initial screenplay, and it’s going to rock everyone’s socks off… It’s very unexpected, the kind of movie it is.”
Rock our socks off, huh?! What exactly can CAPTAIN AMERICA do or what does he really have that would rock our socks off?!
He also said that Captain America’s solo film sets up THE AVENGERS Movie in “a fantastic way.”
Jon Favreau recently said he will not direct THE AVENGERS because he’s more comfortable working with tech-based hero like IRON MAN than to figure out how to combine the supernatural elements of THOR.
But here’s the million dollar revelation…there is a wish list of actors to play CAPTAIN AMERICA. Somebody in the movie-blogging world needs to get their hands on that list.
They’re going to have to cast someone soon enough because THE FIRST AVENGER CAPTAIN AMERICA is scheduled to open on July 22nd, 2011 to be directed by Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park 3). Meanwhile Kenneth Branagh’s THOR is almost close to rounding its entire cast.
Well with the way how this country is I hope it is someone who is american in real life cause if he’s not a lot of people will take it as a slap in the face. Its bad enough people complain when people particular racial parts when they are the opposite. Like I was reading that they were gonna use Marlon Wyans to be Robin in Batman begins or Dark Knight but people were like um….Dick Grayson is caucasion. WTF dude. I know I was like WTF when I read that Jake Gyllenhal was the Prince of Persia. I mean he doesn’t look persian. Even with facial hair and the tan he just looks like he’s the Prince of Phoenix, Arizona.
I wish I can say that I agree with everyone but I can’t cause I said that Daniel Craig Dolph Lungren could make a pretty good captain America if they change their speaking accent. I’m still not hearing the end of it, Everyday I get blasted about it.
But really after making that really ridiculously long post about who should be the next X men director. The dude that played Uncle Owen from Star Wars and Gawain from King Authur. He’s got a nice size(wait, that didn’t sound right), has a low voice, Doesn’t look old but not too young and looks good putting a foot up someone’s ass.
One time I heard someone say Vin Diesel. He has the look also but the problem is he talk too slow……way too slow. Plus people would think it’s xXx reboot.
I also think the dude who played Speed Racer’s older brother from the beginning of the movie. Not Matthew fox but the other guy. He has the look also. He might can do it.
I just hope that the script is somewhat close to the real thing or at least Ultimate Captain America and that they don’t create a snowball storyline like the Xmen storyline and the Transformers storyline.
But Iam also glad that Jon Favreau is not doing Captain America casue he did a pisspoor job with daredevil but that’s what he get for listening to Kevin Smith and taking on Ben Affleck. We all know he sucks on action movies and he really shines on movies where he just standing around talking doing nothing. Affleck was a great Matt Murdock but a horrible daredevil…he even sucked being CG daredevil. Traaaagedy.
And please keep Michael Bay away from the franchise.
If I’m not mistaken… Jon Favreau was not the one who directed Daredevil.. it was that crappy filmmaker Mark Steven Johnson who also helmed Ghost Rider.
Variety had an article once trying to find out why Hollywood lately has been casting non-Americans and have them do American accents, the theory is that non-American actors are more macho and tough than American actors. I’m not saying I agreed but as you know..Hugh Jackman plays Wolverine, Christian Bale plays Batman, Sam Worthington in recent big budget films..
So I think the audience is more open to a non American playing CAPTAIN AMERICA that than to have an American play James Bond.
I hear ya but I do remember when Black Hawk Down came out, there were a lot of poeple bitchin cause the like 80% of the cast were non americans playing as US MARINES and they didn’t hide their accents. Me personally I didnt care about it being an issue at all casue they all had to go thru boot camp and special training trained by the US military. But since everyone is being so patriotic I’m just saying.
I mean if a US director can make a film about Pearl harbor and pissed off real ww2 vets to no end. I can only imagine would happen if Captain America had a scottish Accent or something. 40% would have people laughing at the movie. 35% would be stuck in the WTF moment and the rest would care just as long it not crappy and it’s not directed by Michael bay
