Geoffrey Fletcher’s Next Will Be Directing

Posted by Rama On March - 9 - 2010

Geoffrey Fletcher

Hands down, the biggest surprise at the Oscars last Sunday was Geoffrey Fletcher’s win for Best Adapted Screenplay. Everybody was expecting Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner to snatch that one for Up In The Air. Fletcher’s win practically came out of nowhere, but… Read the rest of this entry »

Highway To Oscars: Clean Sweep!

Christoph Waltz, Mo'nique

This year could not be any more predictable than the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting actress. Thinking that some other contender in those categories would win the Oscar this Sunday might be even considered wishful thinking, borderline crazy. Nobody more deserving than Christoph Waltz and Mo’NiqueRead the rest of this entry »

Cameron Crowe Wants To Buy A ZOO

Cameron Crowe

Huh.. I thought Cameron Crowe already retired.. I guess he’s making a comeback. Almost Famous was excellent, Vanilla Sky was just ok, and his last one, Elizabethtown (2005) was forgettable. Of course Say Anything and Jerry Maguire are classic. Vulture said Crowe wants to adapt WE BOUGHT A ZOO based on the memoir by Benjamin Mee. Nothing official yet but he’s circling the script that’s already written by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) but if Crowe does move forward with it then he’s going to do some rewrite first. Check out the awesome true story synopsis after this jump. I gotta say, this is one story that might be Oscar worthy… Read the rest of this entry »

Noah Baumbach To Rewrite Ratner’s TOWER HEIST

Posted by Rama On February - 20 - 2010

Ben Stiller, Noah Baumbach, Brett Ratner

Just the other day, LA TIMES reported that Ben Stiller is replacing Eddie Murphy for the TOWER HEIST formerly known as Trump Heist, which will be directed by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour movies). It was supposed to be a black version of Ocean’s Eleven with Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock, Chris Tucker as the stars but now it’s either Stiller would be the only white folk in the gang or the formula has completely changed because Roger Friedman is now saying that Noah Baumbach (The Squid And The Whale, Fantastic Mr. Fox), who directed Stiller’s upcoming dramedy GREENBERG, has been hired to do a rewrite.. Another TREASURE ISLAND Movie

Treasure Island

So Superhero movie projects are going ‘hmm.. maybe we should follow The Dark Knight’s footsteps and get us some of that gloomy storyline’.. or most movies right now are going ‘hmm… maybe we should follow AVATAR’s footsteps and bank some serious 3D box office money’.. well, action/adventure genre are going ‘hmm.. we should definitely follow the footsteps of Pirates Of The Caribbean and Sherlock Holmes, cause that’s some cool style they got going there” and so another new take on TREASURE ISLAND is happening… Read the rest of this entry »

Guillermo Del Toro waits again

Posted by Rama On February - 14 - 2008

Guillermo Del Toro Empire had a chance to have a chat with Guillermo Del Toro because whether he likes it or not, every time he meets fans and the press he’ll have to be ready for the one question he’s going to hear over and over again. Are you or are you not going to be the one to direct the movie THE HOBBIT?

“I wish it was definite, but it isn’t,” del Toro said. “It’s still in talks, there are still a lot of ‘T’s to cross and ‘I’s to dot. It’s certainly not certain yet…But, as far as I’m concerned, [if it was definite] I would be packed in ten seconds.”

We all wish it was definite too, Del Toro. BTW, loved the movie Pan’s Labyrinth.
According to the website, Guillermo Del Toro doesn’t seem concerned or worried about the recent lawsuit LOTR estate has put on New Line Cinema for not sharing the profit gained from the epic trilogy.

“Since that news broke, I have not exchanged a single phone call with my lawyer or my manager or anyone. They talk about it and I have received some emails, but, as far as I’m concerned, until I’m on board I should not worry about it. I read about it, but there’s nothing I can do about it. This week seems to be the lawsuit week in Hollywood.”

He’s referring to other lawsuit that Fox has on WB over the film project WATCHMEN because both sides bicker like immature kids fighting over who gets to develop, produce and distribute the film. They should bring out a ruler already.

As a matter of fact, Del Toro is so not worried, he might be planning to invite some of the actors from Lord of The Rings whose characters show up in THE HOBBIT, that is if he gets to direct the movie.

“Yeah, absolutely. I’ve been pretty much incredibly open about the things that I love and don’t love in the past. I’ve turned down huge franchises in the past because there are parts of that world I don’t gel with. The reason I took ‘Blade II’ is because I love the characters that Stephen Norrington created and the actors he used. That times ten is the reason why I’m interested in ‘The Hobbit.’”

eh… no offense, Del Toro, but…Blade II sucked! I hated it!
I still love Pan’s Labyrinth though…

REDBELT Trailer

Posted by Rama On February - 14 - 2008

I still think Chiwetel Ejiofor should’ve been nominated for his role in the movie Talk To Me. I guess Sean Penn (Into the Wild) isn’t the only one suffering from a case of Oscar snubs. In REDBELT, Chiwetel stars with Tim Allen, magician Ricky Jay, and world class fighter Randy Cotour in a story about a martial art instructor who is forced to re-enter the world of competition. It’s a dirty game.
This movie’s made by one of my heroes, legendary writer David Mamet (The Untouchables, The Verdict, Glengarry Glenn Ross, Wag The Dog).
REDBELT opens limited April 25th, 2008. Here is the trailer.
