Director Chris Weitz must be feeling good right about now, The Twilight Saga: NEW MOON has become the third biggest opening weekend film domestically of all time and earned about $258 Million worldwide. Meanwhile, Chris’ brother, director Paul Weitz gave us one of this year’s worst movies, Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant and Paul is also in charge of Little Fockers, all I can say is, tough to be him. According to Variety, Chris already got something lined up that would reunite him with Summit Entertainment…
The project is called THE GARDENER, no details yet except that it’s about “a hard-working immigrant who lives in Los Angeles and his efforts to protect his son”, written by scribe Eric Eason.
Don’t forget to check out my top 7 favorite immigrant movies of all time.
I wonder what the father’s protecting his son from, maybe L.A. gangbangers, maybe the kid is a witness to a crime or maybe ‘protect’ just means the daily routines of raising a child. The report doesn’t say if it’s a drama or a thriller.
It would both an atrocity and hilarity if Rob Pattinson gets to play the Mexican father, I’m just saying that only because Hollywood is infamous for pulling stunts like that.
I had a dream that if I won an Oscar someday, I’d dedicate it to my fellow immigrants who’ve traveled far and worked hard for the pursuit of happiness.
But back to Weitz, there have been rumors going around that Weitz would be retiring, that he’d be done making films after THE GARDENER, he has denied this.
He said, in the article, that he did have a painful experience working on The Golden Compass, his work was treated badly and it was the worst thing that ever happened to him professionally but he had a blast working on NEW MOON, it got him motivated again.
Good for you, Chris, now please don’t make another Twilight-like movies, you’re better than that, you made ABOUT A BOY for goodness sake!
