Last month it was reported that THE DARK KNIGHT Score was disqualified from any chance of being an Oscar contender. All because there were 5 names listed as the composers on the musical cue sheet. Zimmer, Howard, music editor Alex Gibson, ambient music designer Mel Wesson and composer Lorne Balfe. But the last three signed an affidavit that says only Zimmer and Howard will get most of the credit.
But Variety today reported that The Music Branch Executive Committee of the Academy has reversed its Nov. 10 decision declaring their score for “The Dark Knight” ineligible for the 2008 Academy Awards. The folks over there got light bulbs turned on in their heads and have concluded that two, Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, were responsible for the score’s authorship.
I’m going to buy THE DARK KNIGHT DVD tomorrow morning, along with the Soundtrack CD, along with Dark Knight merchandises and The Joker toys, the keychains.. whatever.. starting tomorrow.. let the frenzy begins again.
