In a span of 2 decades, director Darren Aronofsky has only made 7 projects, some were short, some were features and most were indies, but you can always tell when it’s an Aronofsky movie because even when his next gig might sound like there’s going to be lots of money involved, the production will remain indie just the way he likes it because his focuses more on the art aspect of the film (Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) instead of the usual Hollywood spectacle.

According to Variety, Darren Aronofsky will direct and produce an indie heist thriller, which is currently untitled, based on the true story of the $85 million robbery at the Securitas Depot in Tonbridge, England, in February 2006, scribe Kerry Williamson will pen the adaptation using materials from the Sports Illustrated magazine article Breaking The Bank By Jon Wertheim and the non-fiction book Heist: The Inside Story of the World’s Biggest Robbery by Howard Sounes
XYZ Films and Time Inc. Studios collaborate with Protozoa Pictures on the project with XYZ fully financing the development.

What’s interesting is that the mastermind was an MMA fighter, via Sportsillustrated.cnn.com

In its April 14 issue, Sports Illustrated published a story by L. Jon Wertheim under that heading about former UFC and Cage Rage fighter Lee “Lightning” Murray, who masterminded the largest cash heist in history — a $92-million raiding of the UK-based Securitas AB, in 2006

So from The Wrestler to MMA Fighter, Aronofsky is fascinated with fallen athletes.
But Aronofsky is also attached to direct BLACK SWAN which has caught the interest of all male audiences around the world ever since the info hit the web about Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis might have a sex scene in the movie.

Anyways, Here’s the official synopsis of the Howard Sounes‘ book..

“On Wednesday, 22 February 2006, 353 million in bank notes was stolen from a cash warehouse belonging to the Securitas company in Tonbridge, Kent – a sum of money so vast that if the notes were stacked up they would equal the height of high-rise building. In terms of value, the Tonbridge Securitas robbery puts all previous famous British capers, such as the Great Train Robbery and the Brink’s-Mat bullion heist, in the shade; it also overshadows similar robberies overseas. Only in times of war have larger cash sums been stolen. This was a crime notable for its audacity, carried out in a small town in the Garden of Kent. A large number of people have been charged in connection with the Tonbridge robbery, with eleven men and women standing trial at the Old Bailey in summer 2007. Further details cannot be revealed at this stage, for legal reasons, but the full story will be told in HEIST, by the author of one of the most successful true crime titles of recent years”
