Almost a year ago, an info hit the web that TWC might restart the SCREAM Franchise by developing SCREAM 4. First thought that came to mind was ‘Why?!’ the second thought that came to mind was that this was going to be a continuation, a fourth installment to the franchise that started with Drew Barrymore’s classic horror telephone opening scene. But lo and behold! Just when we thought we’ve had about enough of reboots.. SCREAM is yet another victim in this endless vicious cycle.
According to Entertainment Weekly, writer/director Kevin Williamson has been working on a new SCREAM trilogy. Williamson wrote the first movie directed by Wes Craven.
SCREAM reboot doesn’t have a director yet but they’re planning to bring back some of the original characters. David Arquette and his wife Courtney Cox have been asked to return. No deals are locked in yet but let’s ask the question again,.. ‘Why?’
Why call it a reboot if you’re going to have the same actors all over again? Why not just write new characters with younger actors and present the movie in 3D like the recent My Bloody Valentine? Why on earth do we need another SCREAM movie?
Because everytime I see that mask now, all I can remember is the Wayans Brothers’ spoof Scary Movie and I’d laugh, the mask doesn’t have that frightening effect anymore.
Now that we’re almost finishing the first decade in this 21st century, we’re almost reaching 2010, the trend has shifted from remaking 80s flicks.. to remaking 90s flicks. So what’s next? Forrest Gump reboot? God help us all..
