This one caught me by surprise, goes to show there are some movie info out there that like to sneak up on you. The screenwriter of The Queen and Frost/Nixon, the great Peter Morgan is making his directorial debut on a project about Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky that nearly got him impeached.
According to Boston.com, The movie’s titled THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP and not much else is known about it but the three main leads have been cast.
Dennis Quaid will play the playboy president Bill Clinton, Julianne Moore will play the tough cookie lady Hillary Clinton who stood by her husband during these times, and Michael Sheen who’s played Tony Blair several times before will reprise the role again as the iconic British prime minister frustrated with Bill as his attentions move from politics to his own personal crisis.
Word has it that Dennis Quaid beat competitions like Philip Seymour Hoffman, Alec baldwin, Russell Crowe and Tim Robbins for this coveted role which kinda suprised me, how come they didn’t think of hiring John Travolta who looked like Bill Clinton in the movie Primary Colors.
Julianna Moore may not look like Hillary but Moore has played many strong female characters before that have been hit with domestic turmoils and some heavy drama, and that’s why she’s perfect for this gig.
THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP will close Peter Morgan’s trilogy on Tony Blair that started with the TV movie The Deal followed by the sequel movie The Queen about the times during the death of Princess Diana.
My friend Natalie who’s a die hard fan of Bill Clinton is going to go ga-ga over this project. I for one thought Bill Clinton wasn’t one of the greatest presidents, but as I remember it times were much better during his presidency than nowadays with this crappy economy and this stupid war.
Besides,.. Bill Clinton is a role model for us guys who look up to him as the man who makes womanizing look so easy. Damn him and his charms!
UPDATE: The movie is not for theatrical release, it’s made for HBO

Clinton wasn’t one of the best Presidents… you’re right… but the guy balanced our budget and our country was doing pretty damn good during his tenure. Not one of the greatest Presidents, but he was good. His only downfall was Lewinski…. which begs this question: Who’s gonna play her in the movie?
You say “the three main leads have been cast”, but I would think Lewinski is a main lead too. Probably more so than Blair. Anyway… I agree with you on the Travolta comment. He would’ve done a much better job as Clinton then Quaid… but I guess I’ll give Quaid a shot before I rip him haha.
I’m not sure who would be perfect to play Monica Lewinsky..
I’ve always had in mind.. that if Winona Ryder was fat, she could probably pull it off
Who do you think should play Lewinski?
Tony Blair is a main lead only because it’s Peter Morgan’s trilogy on Blair eventhough the focus would be Bill-Lewinsky affair.
If I remember correctly, Travolta kinda impersonated Bill’s accent.. let’s see if Quaid can do it but then again..
If only Phil Hartman was still alive, he’d be perfect for this role.
Oh yea… Hartman was good in the SNL skits. He probably would’ve pulled it off great.
Ryder is a good choice for Lewinski. You have to remember that Lewinski wasn’t always fat. She was ok when Bill first met her. She got fat later haha. So Ryder could play the role pretty good…. then with a little movie magic, make her gain some weight. Hey… if they can make Brad Pitt 80 and 20 years old, they can put some poundage on Ryder haha.
As far the Blair situation. I didn’t realize there were two flicks about him already and this would wrap up a trilogy (that I didn’t even know about). What were the first two flicks called?
A TV Movie called THE DEAL.. and then the movie that you might’ve heard of called THE QUEEN
They should definitely hire whoever did Benjamin Button on Brad Pitt to work on Winona Ryder.. as long as she doesn’t steal their stuff in the process. Ouch!
