Guess we’re playing a game of is Depp in the gig or is he not as we pick one petal off the flower. Back in August, it was announced that Johnny Depp will not be involved in Terry Gilliam’s attempt to resurrect THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE because Depp is super busy, he doesn’t want to keep Gilliam waiting and Gilliam said he wanted to start shooting next spring and unfortunately Depp won’t be available that time. The recent big info regarding this project was when Robert Duvall hinted that he’s been approached to play DON QUIXOTE. Gilliam recently talked, via Paste, and confirmed Duvall’s involvement but.. he also said Depp will still be in the movie…
Paste: Is it still going to have Johnny Depp in it?
Gilliam: Yeah, and I rewrote the script. Robert Duvall has agreed to play Quixote. I’m really excited. So it’s all that business of funding now.
Hey, if Depp can find the time to do this, then by all means. Director Rob Marshall spoke recently and said he’s still waiting on the script and Depp’s availability as well for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGERS TIDE which is scheduled to open in summer 2011. Tim Burton is still going to direct DARK SHADOWS with Depp as Vampire Barnabas Collins, filming is expected to start next fall.
Based on Miguel de Cervantes‘ classic 17th century romantic tale, Jean Rochefort was playing Don Quixote in the first trial, and Depp played the character Toby, an advertising executive, who finds himself unstuck in time, unwittingly travels between modern day London and 17th century La Mancha, where he participates in the adventures of Don Quixote, who mistakes him for Sancho Panza.
