I didn’t think Wild Hogs was all that bad, I understand some would see it as one of the worst comedy of all time but it had its funny moments, and Peter Fonda‘s appearance was a nice touch. The movie banked $168 Million in domestic box office and talks of a sequel has been circulating for the last 2 years. Unfortunately Disney has been doing a major ‘audit’ and by that I mean the mouse house has been axing projects that it deems unnecessary and a possible waste of resources. It put a halt on McG‘s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: Captain Nemo, it stopped Robin Williams‘ Wedding Banned and now WILD HOGS 2: BACHELOR RIDE…
According to Variety, turns out, the sequel was expected to start filming next summer using the script already written by the scribe of the first installment, Brad Copeland. Walt Becker is supposed to return as the director while John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy reprise their roles as biker pals in mid-life crisis. But nope, it’s not going to happen now. Luckily, at this point, nobody was pay or play so the situation never got too ugly for Disney.
Once again, they’re putting the blame on Disney’s recent flop, OLD DOGS from Wild Hogs director Becker, starring Travolta and Williams, which after almost a month since its release, only banked $40 Million, plus critics and audiences hated it with a passion.
Maybe it’s good that Disney’s not moving forward with some of its initial projects, the failure of OLD DOGS would give them some time to regroup and plan, to fund projects that are worth pursuing, stories with actual good quality.
