The trailer for DOUBT has hit the web and it’s got Oscar written all over it, not only because it’s filled with Oscar worthy stars like Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and the great Meryl Streep but also because it seems like the story might be a contender in the best adapted screenplay category. I once said that if I were to write a book or create something and the studio wanted to make movies based on what I’ve come up with, I’d put in the contract that I’d be the one to write the screenplay as well.
This is one proof of that. DOUBT is based on a Pulitzer Prize winning play by playwright John Patrick Shanley who then also wrote the screenplay for the movie and direct it too. Great move!
The story is about a young nun (Adams) who finds herself in the middle of a tense confrontation in which a Bronx Catholic school principal (Streep) accuses a priest (Hoffman) of pedophilia.
DOUBT opens limited December 12th, 2008
