Back when Steven Soderbergh got MMA hottie fighter Gina Carano to star in the spy thriller project currently titled KNOCKOUT, he promised that she would be surrounded by famous names, The Playlist has learned that he kept his word because Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Dennis Quaid and Michael Douglas have all signed on. Are they in this gig just to be Carano’s punching bags? Check out their roles after this jump…

Here’s what we knew back then, Soderbergh turned to one of his favorite writers Lem Dobbs who brought us the badass Terrence Stamp flick The Limey.
The story is about a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who is given a second chance to use her skills for constructive purposes.
at the time, it was described to be in the same spirit as Jason Bourne movies, James Bond action mixed with a little bit of La Femme Nikita and Kill Bill

And here’s what we know now..
The movie is now more of a revenge action-spy thriller. Carano plays a character named Mallory Kane, a black ops super soldier, double crossed by someone on her own team, seeks to uncover who has set her up to take the fall for a job that goes bad and involves a murder.
Douglas plays a government figure
Fassbender and one other actor that hasn’t been revealed yet will play members of Kane’s commando spy unit,
and one of them will end up as the central antagonist that betrays Carano’s character
McGregor plays the owner/guy who runs a Blackwater private military company-type group that Kane is part of

Carano’s Kane character is now the opposite of a girl from the “wrong side of the tracks.” She’s now from a solid background and was raised around military honor and academia. She leaves the military to go to work for a Blackwater-esque company to make better money and then is eventually betrayed by one of her teammates.
(many of the males take a beating at the hands of Carano).

KNOCKOUT will shoot in locations around the world that include Ireland, Turkey and the U.S.
