Producer Don Murphy (Transformers, Shoot ‘em Up) has always wanted to make a movie version based on the comic book WE3 and now according to shocktilyoudrop.com, the project has snatched Kung Fu Panda co-director, John Stevenson to helm the film.
Written by Grant Morrison, Art by Frank Quitely, Published by Vertigo/DC Comics. In the plot, The military have created a new type of soldier, one that can be sent into almost any situation. They’re living weapons with remote-controls to activate their implements of destruction. The core of these new weapons, though, are animals that are hardwired into battle suits. Thanks to chips in their skulls, they’re allowed to speak. and when their project is shut down and they’re scheduled for termination, a dog, a cat, and a rabbit begin a desperate bid for freedom, one that can never be allowed to succeed lest the project be exposed. The action-packed, hyper-violent and heartbreaking story focuses on those three awesome characters.
This seems like an animation project but it’s not.. It’s going to be live action so it’s going to be interesting how director John Stevenson‘s going to pull this off. And according to producer Don Murphy, they’re gonna go for the hardcore R-rating. There’s killer rabbits and stuff and they’re in the process right now of trying to figure out where we’re going to make it. I’m more curious as to HOW they’re going to make it, the process.
I’ve never read the book but clearly whatever comic book that has this image below as part of the story has got to have its movie version rated R.
This is not Watership Down, that’s for sure!
By the way, at one point, John Stevenson‘s name was rumored to direct HE-MAN Movie.
