I blame George Lucas for ruining Indiana Jones And the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. My friend Dex the Myspace-Man blames him too and our assumption is that the alien thing was all his idea. Lucas spoke to the Sunday Times recently and from what he said, it sounds like our assumption is correct all along.
He spoke about the possibility of INDIANA JONES 5…
“We were hoping for box-office figures like that, which is, ultimately, with inflation, what the others have done, within 10%,” Lucas explains. “So, we squeaked up there. Really, though, it was a challenge getting the story together and getting everybody to agree on it. Indiana Jones only becomes complicated when you have another two people saying ‘I want it this way’ and ‘I want it that way’, whereas, when I first did Jones, I just said, ‘We’ll do it this way’ — and that was much easier. But now I have to accommodate everybody, because they are all big, successful guys, too, so it’s a little hard on a practical level.
“If I can come up with another idea that they like, we’ll do another. Really, with the last one, Steven wasn’t that enthusiastic. I was trying to persuade him. But now Steve is more amenable to doing another one. Yet we still have the issues about the direction we’d like to take. I’m in the future; Steven’s in the past. He’s trying to drag it back to the way they were, I’m trying to push it to a whole different place. So, still we have a sort of tension. This recent one came out of that. It’s kind of a hybrid of our own two ideas, so we’ll see where we are able to take the next one.”
So.. let me get this straight, Lucas…. the greatest director of all time, Steven Spielberg wants the next installment of Indy Jones adventure to be about artifacts and ancient gods but you want it to be about alien and spaceships?!
Let’s just hope that INDIANA JONES 5 does not find our hero Indy Jones in a battle against Darth Vader…. or I’ll be pissed!
What do you think?
Should there be INDIANA JONES 5?
Do you think Harrison Ford is too old to play the role now?
Shia to continue the legacy, maybe? or he’s not cool enough to wear the big hat?

Stick with the ancient artifacts and old gods for the indy adventures, it works well. I would like to see more of Shia as Henry Jones the third, but still focus on Ford, he is Indy and he still has in him to pull off what needs to be done.
Clips from the making-of DVD from the first three movies show Lucas totally being a backseat director, and it’s a miracle that Spielberg tolerated it! I’ve directed a handful of *significantly* smaller projects (which is an understatement!), and backseat directors pain me to no end!
Shia should’ve done Holes 2 and not drink and drive. The next film should be Short Round and the Fountain of Youth. Hell, the last film should’ve been Short Round and the Fountain of Youth!
Anyway, beware of even numbered Indiana Jones movies. (Isn’t that what they say about Star Trek movies?)
Cheers,
Ryan
By all means there should be an Indy 5!
But… word to Lucas…
THIS IS NOT STAR WARS AND DO NOT TAKE IT IN THAT DIRECTION!!!!
Ford should be Indy and Shia needs to be better in the next in order to go up to the helm of the hat. But… again…
GET LUCAS OUT OF THE PICTURE!
He makes Star Wars in space, and he should not bring Indy to space. From the article it’s obvious that everyone did not want it, but Lucas whined to have it his way.
I think, Lucas’ head has gotten big since he finished Star Wars and wants to continue his adventure in space in other movies. Remember people, LUCAS PRODUCED HOWARD THE DUCK!!! AND HE IS ASHAMED OF IT!
