It’s a shame that Law Abiding Citizen only earned $52 Million domestically, I thought it was a smart thriller that didn’t get a fighting chance. But Gerard Butler isn’t giving up, his next gig will pair him up with an Oscar caliber Brit thesp who knows how to deliver a powerhouse performance in every role he plays on screen…
According to Hollywood Reporter, Butler is set to star opposite the great Ralph Fiennes in CORIOLANUS which will be Fiennes’ directorial debut. The best part of this project is that the script was written by John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator, The Last Samurai).
The story is a contemporary version of Shakespeare’s Rome-set political and family drama.
Butler will play Tullus Aufidius, commander of the Volscian army.
CORIOLANUS is a 1608 tragedy by William Shakespeare, based on the life of the legendary Roman leader, Gaius Martius Coriolanus, check out the original story OVER THERE
Director Fiennes isn’t joking around, he’s round up a group of people who give acting a good name, William Hurt, Eddie Marsan, Jessica Chastain and Vanessa Redgrave.
Production starts in March 2010 in Serbia in March
This is off topic but the title CORIOLANUS cracks me up because it reminds me of the kind of word that Jemaine Clement’s character in Gentlemen Broncos Trailer would love to hear.
Great news about Butler playing in CORIOLANUS, he will be great. Regarding Law Abiding Citizen it is being considered a surprised solid hit for Butler and Foxx and the movie has not even opened in foreign markets so it will be a money maker and the first hit for Overture Films. Domestically the film is proving it has legs and estimates have the movie making upward to $65-$70 million. I do agree the studio picked the wrong time of year to release the film, it had to compete with a crowded release schedule and the Halloween scary movies that are popular this time of year.
Good point, it did feel more like a spring or early summer movie but maybe the brutality is what makes the studio think it deserves a Halloween season release.
I still think it was an intense thriller either way
