Anthony MinghellaOne of the most famous names in Hollywood today has passed away. Oscar winning filmmaker Anthony Minghella who brought us The English Patient, Cold Mountain, and The Talented Mr. Ripley died at 54 today.

Here’s the report from Associated Press

“Anthony Minghella died this morning at Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith, west London,” Minghella’s spokesman said in a statement. “He was operated on last week for a growth in his neck, and the operation seemed to have gone well. At 5 a.m. today he had a fatal hemorrhage.”

Minghella is survived by his parents, his siblings in the entertainment industry Dominic Minghella and Edana Minghella, two other sisters, his wife, choreographer Carolyn Choa, and two children, Max Minghella and Hannah Minghella

I was not a fan of his movies but I’d have to admire his contribution to the world of cinema.
He won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director for the romantic period movie The English Patient (1996)
He also made Jude Law an Oscar nominee and he’s responsible for the Oscars that Juliet Binochet and Renee Zellweger won.
So thank you for your movies, Mr. Minghella. You’ll be missed.
