Goodbye BACK TO THE FUTURE! Welcome back DeLorean!

As some of you may already know by now that one of our beloved all time classic attractions featured at Universal Studios Hollywood, will be closed by September 3rd, and that is none other than the legendary BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Ride. It’ll be a sad labor day, I know. No matter how many times I’ve gone there, it would still be… the ride that I got couldn’t wait to have fun with as soon as I enter the theme park gates. The one in Universal Studios Florida had been closed since last spring. Apparently they’re going to turn this whole thing into a brand new ride featuring The Simpsons.

Look, I love the Simpsons, but why can’t they just have both instead of destroying one for the other? Hollywood’s Back to the future the ride has been around since 1993, they should make that a historic landmark or something! :) Maybe more and more kids these days have lost touch with what Back to the Future is. I don’t care if the technology is getting far behind some of today’s 3-D extravaganza stuff. Anyone who thinks replacing BTTF The Ride is a good idea needs to get kick in the neck.

Here is a video clip that serves as a memory of a great adventure!

I didn’t care when they closed down E.T. the Ride, I thought it was lame anyway.. but BTTF Rocks, man!
Every time there’s a family or friend of ours visiting the states, we’d always take them to Universal Studios. I think my most memorable part of the ride was the part of going back to driving through and smashing the clock tower, that was pretty cool!

The ride can seat 192 guests per show: 2 theaters that house 12 ride vehicles, with each vehicle holding 8 passengers. The show cycle is approximately 6 minutes, which gives a THRC (theoretical hourly ride capacity) of 1,920 guests per hour. So make sure you get the last taste of the adventure before it takes a final bow. The Simpsons the ride is scheduled to open in Spring 2008. Go the link Back to the Future: The Ride to see how you can pay your last respect to the signature attraction in the capital entertainment of L.A. I am going to go there again to ride the time machine once and for all.

On another note, and this is a true story by the way, a Texas Entrepreneur Stephen Wynne is bringing DeLorean DMC 12 (Back to the Future car) back to life. The original DeLorean car company folded in 1983 because it couldn’t sell enough cars. The popularity of the movie ‘Back to the Future’ and its sequels have made the car iconic. Now Stephen Wynne and his people are going to make a souped-up version of this vehicle that’s known for its gull-wing doors.

Enhancements to the new cars will include an improved stainless-steel frame, a stronger but lighter fiberglass underbody and electronics upgraded from the disastrous systems in the early DeLoreans. A peppier engine — the original cars’ 135 horsepower was a downer for performance enthusiasts — will be available as an option.

“After working on these cars practically every day for 25 years, we’ve identified most of the issues and replaced them,” Wynne said. “If there’s a better part available, we’ll use it. If there’s a better way to install it, we’ll do it.”

The base price of a new DeLorean is expected to be $57,500 — roughly the same price a 1981 DeLorean would have cost in today’s dollars.

I admire a guy’s passion toward something no matter how ridiculous it may seem, but I gotta say that DeLorean is not really the type of car I’d brag about to my friends. Unless it can do things like what it did in the movie Back to the Future, it’s not really the sexiest thing on the road. There’s just something about the design that’s just ugly. But hey, if you wanna say to your friends that you’ve got a car that Marty McFly drove in the movie, then go ahead and purchase one!
