THE HOBBIT is Keepin' it Old Skool

GDTI’m not an expert when it comes to the magic of movie making… someday I’ll hope to master everything there is to know about it, you can cross your fingers on that one.

But it doesn’t take a master to notice that from Guillermo Del Toro’s previous movies (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy movies) he would prefer MakeUp FX over CG. He would enhance animatronic creatures with computer animation

So for those of you who can’t wait for the movie adaptation of THE HOBBIT, writer/director Guillermo Del Toro talked to IGN about how he’s going to approach the visual aspect of the project.

“huge fans of ‘old-world’ techniques like maquettes, models, miniatures, paintings – and in the case of THE HOBBIT, I do intend to continue this trend and bring much more animatronics into the mix. We need to keep that art form alive, because it brings a textural power to the movie that ultimately affects the content. The creatures somehow seem more tactile and more tangible than CG.”

Do you agree with Guillermo Del Toro? Or do you think CG is way cooler and more awesome?
He did state that the character creepy Gollum “my precious” will remain strictly as the CG fabrication established by the LOTR movies.

The first part of THE HOBBIT movies will open December 2011 release, and the second part opens December 2012.
