These are some of the movies that have opened on or the weekend of 4th of July, colossal and catastrophe movies that have championed America and remind us of the themes of unity, sacrifice, and all the things that really matter in life.
What do you think the next movie Hollywood should make that’s worthy of 4th of July opening?
I don’t need to say much about this 1985 movie, because most of us grew up watching Dr. Brown and Marty McFly driving through adventures and all their sequels. It was one of the movies in the history of motion picture that helped redefine Science Fiction films.
This 1990 movie is probably, in my humble opinion, one of the best action sequels ever made. I know that it may not have exciting CGI visual effects, but back then Bruce Willis as John McLane showed us the old fashion American way of fighting bad guys through brawls, curses, gunfires, stunts, explosions, crashes and bruises.
Sometimes, there would be sequels that are better than the original films, and this is one of them. Our future governor kicked liquid metal ass in this 1991 summer blockbuster and went out in blaze of glory.
Every American favorite movie star/actor: Tom Hanks delivered yet another inspiring performance in this heartfelt 1995 drama, which became one of the most captivating films of all time.
This of course was one of the most entertaining films on the 4th of July opening. It spent big money in the making and it received big money in its first weekend in 1996. It was one of Will Smith’s early films in his career as a movie star and from there on out… well, let’s just say he’s one of the most well known name in today’s culture.
First time I watched this movie, I couldn’t stop laughing at how serious Tommy Lee Jones’ face looked and how hilarious Will Smith was. This 1997 action/comedy presented us with an odd couple that protected the earth from the scum of the universe.
in 1998, there a bunch of oil rig workers hired by the government represented by Billy Bob Thornton, to blow up an asteroid headed to earth. So Bruce Willis, Michael Clarke Duncan, Steve Buscemi, Owen Wilson, and the not so cool movie star star Ben Affleck answered the call for patriotism. This was a fun flick that revived the popular song ‘Leaving on a Jetplane’.. o and did I mention it was also directed by Michael Bay who recently brought us robot awesome movie for 4 th of July this year?!
I think this 2004 Spiderman sequel is the best so far in all Spiderman movies. It depicts heroism and sacrifice and the tough choices a hero must make. With great superpower comes great responsibility to make a film that’s worth the money.
The ending scenes to this 2005 disaster movie was what killed it. It could’ve been better in every aspect. This goes to prove that sometimes, awesome visual effects alone is not enough to save the movie from its weak storyline.
Maybe it’s just me, but maybe this 2006 summer movie did not come out as a blockbuster as it should’ve been because it tried too hard to bring Superman in parallel with Jesus and the whole conspiracy of Mary Magdalene with a child and stuff. And maybe, the producers should’ve just left Superman as Superman who fights for truth, justice, and the American Way.
