That’s the thing with us movie bloggers though.. even when we’re interviewing a filmmaker about a current project, we can’t help but ask him/her about their future upcoming projects.. trying to get all the scoop and exclusives straight the ones directly involved.
Comingsoon.net got Ron Howard saying a few things about the possibility of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Movie and ANGELS & DEMONS Movie at the press junket for Forst/Nixon.
Regarding the movie version of one of the most dysfunctional hilarious family sitcom to ever hit the small screen, in which Howard was the narrator, this is what he said…
“I really hope we do it,” Howard enthused. “The reason there’s been so much back and forth is… well, for two reasons, is the business understanding coming from the studio side was not clear, so even though we were wanting to do it and said, ‘Yeah, maybe we could’ but things weren’t defined. I think that’s really come into focus in the last week or so.

Mitch’s full-on commitment to not only write it but direct it is something he’s been wrestling with, he’s been launching a TV show at the same time, so he couldn’t let it really be at the forefront of his mind creatively. It is now. He seems very committed. We still don’t have a script. Yeah, he’s got some great ideas, and the cast seemed very excited about it and I certainly am. I’m very, very hopeful—more hopeful now than ever—that it’s really going to happen.”
Recently Jeffrey Tambor claimed that the movie is ‘a go’. If I get this correctly, all they need to get is a green light from the studio that would finance it. Nothing is made clear, that’s why nothing can be confirmed quite yet. Man, I hate ‘red tapes’
As far as ANGELS & DEMONS movies goes, as a big fan of Dan Brown‘s novels, I think I’m gonna keep my hopes low for this installment, mainly because I was hugely disappointed by The Da Vinci Code movie adaptation, also directed by Ron Howard as well. But from his explanation, it seems like he’s got a good understanding about the story, let’s just hope him and writer Akiva Goldsman didn’t change too much just for the sake of the movie’s runtime.
“It is going to be different, but it has everything to do with the story,” he told us. “This literally is a ticking bomb story, and it’s very much about modernity clashing with antiquity and technology vs. faith, so these themes, these ideas are much more active whereas the other one lived so much in the past. The tones are just innately so different between the two stories. We also felt a lot more license to take liberties with this plot then we probably did, because this is a great movie story but it doesn’t carry with it the weight the ‘Da Vinci Code’ did for its readers. I’m hoping this is a really great entertainment.”
Frost/Nixon producer Brian Grazer, who is Ron Howard’s best buddy, business partner, was also there and he revealed that Spike Lee‘s next project is not going to be INSIDE MAN 2 as previously reported. As a matter of fact, it’s going to be L.A. RIOTS based on the 1992 famed Rodney King’s L.A. Riot.
“360 degree view of what that is, an autopsy of how a riot works.”
Good choice, I’d rather see that depiction than INSIDE MAN sequel because I wasn’t really impressed by the heist movie starring Denzel Washingtn and Clive Owen and Jodie Foster.
Spike Lee is at his best when dealing with movies that have themes of racial tension,.. Not some bank robbery with a Nazi twist.
Grazer also said briefly about director Ridley Scott‘s new take on the Robin Hood tale titled NOTTINGHAM, which will be in production next Spring in England.. Last rumor had it Russell Crowe might play both the characters Robin Hood and Sheriff of Nottingham
“Gladiator version of Robin Hood,” “an origin story.”
