O man, thank God for this picture. I needed the laugh badly. It’s been a long hard stressful, exhausting day but coming home to a picture of Nicolas Cage as SUPERMAN is just absolutely rich. I think I got teary eyed from laughing too much. This photo showed up online at timburton.jpg via IGN. The photo itself was reportedly taken on September 15th, 1997
This was a costume test of Cage in the redesigned Superman suit, the Ghost Rider had long black hair. From the project that never saw the light of day, SUPERMAN LIVES in the late 1990s which would have been directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Kevin Smith and rewritten by Wesley Strick and produced by Jon Peters.
If this movie had made it to the big screen, I think it would’ve been a laughing stock. Look, I have respect for Burton but he’s only damn good when playing in his own sandbox instead of throwing the content of his sandbox at another playground. I know, bad metaphor, what I’m trying to say is, Burton is hella good at what he does, creating a world beyond our imagination with weird, borderline freaky characters and dark, gothic, often gloomy but refreshing visual feast and creative storylines which is why I think his Batman movies worked well for that era but SUPERMAN is a whole nother ball game. I just don’t see how Burton would do the Man of Steel justice, thinking about casting Nicolas Cage as it was should give you an idea that Burton was headed on the wrong direction.
I remember Brendan Fraser was also considered for the SUPERMAN role.. is there any costume test photo of him too? This is better than watching a sitcom.

I actually would not mind seeing Brendan Fraser’s photo with Superman suit. I mean, the guy is 6.3 and has big muscles. No way he could look bad in it.
good point.. he would look for the girls to see indeed
