so shall it be played… so shall it be turned into a movie. Back in August of Last year, Director Ridley Scott expressed his interest in making a live action movie based on the legendary Harsbro board game, MONOPOLY while the rest of the world asked “Of All Things,.. Why That??”
And now, it’s talk the talk no more, because according to Hollywood Reporter, it’s a done deal! Ridley Scott (Gladiator, American Gangster) is going to not only produce but also direct MONOPOLY with the story to be written by screenwriter Pamela Pettle who had a hand in penning Corpse Bride for Tim Burton and Monster House for Gil Kenan.
The word is that this movie version will be futuristic, along the lines of Ridley Scott‘s cult classic hit BLADE RUNNER, which is kinda confusing because I thought last year, Ridley Scott wanted a humorous family comedy style as this movie’s genre.
How on earth is Blade Runner-esque Monopoly movie going to look like?
And is his go-to guy Russell Crowe going to play Mr. Monopoly?
Believe it or not, this is not the only board game out there that’s being turned into a feature film. Platinum Dunes is producing its feature adaptation of Ouija Board while the maritime classic Battleship is also in development.
Next stop, SCRABBLE, maybe? Who the heck is going to be able to come up with a plot for that one?!
Ridley Scott is waiting for spring to come so that he can shoot NOTTINGHAM in London with the right leaves. Starring Russell Crowe, the story will be a re-telling, a new take on the legend of Robin Hood.
