As it was previously reported, Sam Raimi was chosen to relaunch the Jack Ryan franchise for Paramount, despite the fact that I think hiring Sam Raimi to direct another adaptation of Tom Clancy’s novel is a bad idea mainly because he ruined Spiderman 3 and the footage I’ve seen of his new horror movie DRAG ME TO HELL was ridiculous.
CHUD received what can be considered a rumor for now, and the bird on the window said that Sam Raimi wants James Franco to play the man star Jack Ryan but Paramount thinks James Franco is not a box office material.
Supposedly the studio and the producer are clashing over the casting.
James Franco is a talented actor. If you haven’t seen City by the Sea or his golden globe winning performance as James Dean then you probably are missing out. But I’m going to have to agree with Paramount on this one… at least for now.
The only way James Franco can be Jack Ryan material is that if he bulk up a bit, kinda stay away from his Pineapple Express persona and act believable as a special agent.
If a talentless actor like Ben Affleck could get cast, for some weird reason, there’s still hope for the promising star who’s actually got talent, James Franco.
