For a while, some thought director Joe Wright (Pride And Prejudice, Atonement) is going to tackle the remake of MY FAIR LADY as his next project, to be reunited with his go-to girl Keira Knightley who’ll get to play Eliza Doolittle, iconically played by the late Audrey Hepburn in the original version. But Wright denied attachment, he did play with the idea but chose not go through with it. His previous film The Soloist, in my opinion, didn’t get a fighting chance because Paramount moved the release date from Oscar worthy season last year to this year’s spring and when it did come out, hardly anybody cared to watch it (earned only $31 Million domestically) much less talk Oscar buzz regarding his directing or the actors’ performance, Wright deserves better than this. But his next gig won’t be drama, it will be an action adventure…
According to Heat Vision, Wright is set to direct an action adventure thriller titled HANNA for Focus Features. Written by Seth Lochhead and David Farr, the story is about “a 14-year-old Eastern European girl who has been raised by her father to be a cold-blooded killing machine. She connects with a French family, forms a friendship with their daughter and goes through the pangs of adolescence. When the girl is dragged back to her father’s world and discovers that she was bred as a killing machine in a CIA prison camp, she must fight her way to a free life.”
This project has been described as La Femme Nikita meets Bourne movies. It was actually housed at Focus Features since 2007 and names like Danny Boyle and Afonso Cuaron at one point wanted to direct it.
