I’ve never read the Edgar Rice Burrough’s novels of JOHN CARTER OF MARS but Pixar’s Andrew Stanton developing the live action adaptation has been, since the get-go, an info worth following. Stanton is set to direct, using the script he worked on with Mark Andrews with revisions from Michael Chabon
Slashfilm got a heads up about KSL recent report that the production will take place in Utah which gives $5.5 million in tax credits for the $28 million of work that Stanton and crew will be doing over there for this project.
One of the state’s officials Jason Perry sounds very happy about it..
“This is over 400 people involved in full-time work for seven-straight months here in the State of Utah. This is going to put our film crews to work. It’s really going to put us on the map as a place to film,”
“This is exactly what we told our legislature would happen when we got a better incentive program for film. We will have 400 people coming constantly in and out of the State of Utah, staying in our motel rooms. They’ll be eating in our restaurants.”
Filming starts in November. There was a rumor that Tom Cruise might be interested in the lead role but that never got confirmed. Last rumor I heard was regarding Christian Bale but he said he didn’t know what JOHN CARTER OF MARS was.

The story revolves around a Civil War veteran who retreats into a cave to avoid capture by Apache Indians. He takes an otherworldly turn as he’s transported via time portal to the planet of Barsoom and taken prisoner by 12-foot-tall green men. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior.
