We heard the info this past summer telling us that Sony’s Screen Gems is definitely going to develop UNDERWORLD 4 and it’s scheduled for release in January 2011 and it’s going to be in 3D. No word yet what format it’ll take (prequel, sequel) and whether or not the stars: Kate Beckinsale, Michael Sheen, Scott Speedman, Rhona Mitra, Bill Nighy will reprise their role in any capacity. There’s been a development, Heat Vision states that one of the writers of one of my favorite series from this past decade, The Shield, John Hlavin has been hired to write the script for UNDERWORLD 4…
With no director or stars attached yet, Hlavin has this to say about what he has in mind..
“I can tell you it’s not a prequel.”
“It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.”
Well, we can take Rhona Mitra out of the equation since it’s not a prequel and her character didn’t survive the previous prequel. Hlavin doesn’t want a reboot so we don’t need to expect new stars either. Kate Beckinsale hasn’t signed a deal yet, she did say that she’s moved on from this franchise but if her Len Wiseman who directed her in the first two movies, wanted her back in leather tights, she might just have to say yes. Besides, what better way to “honor what fans have loved” than to have Beckinsale back anyway?!
