John Woo Tom Cruise

Alright! Yeah! Awesome! Tom Cruise and John Woo working together again. Rock on! Ah, who am I kiddin’?! I wasn’t a big fan of their last gig, Mission Impossible 2. That motorbike stunt wasn’t that impressive, that slow mo walk with the doves flying by was a bit on the cheese side. I’ve said before that J.J. Abrams‘ version was the best one in the franchise, it’s as if the previous two never existed. But after more than a decade, maybe it’s fair for such a reunion to occur, Woo and Cruise waving it like they just don’t care…

Hidden in a recent Variety article, it’s mentioned that Tom Cruise is attached to star in John Woo’s next movie FLYING TIGERS.
This is all happening despite the fact that Woo previously said that his 2 passion projects that he hopes to realize in the near future are the remake of French classic Le Samouraï and an historical film about Marco Polo and his friendship with Kublai Khan.

But comingsoon.net learned from the Broken Arrow director himself on what FLYING TIGERS is all about…
“It’s based on a true story in WWII, about a group of American volunteer fighter pilots who worked with the Chinese Air Force fighting with the Japanese and they won the war. Also, it’s the story of Clair Chennault, and they did a great contribution for the Chinese, and the Chinese people love and respect them. The whole story is about a friendship between a Chinese and an American and they worked together.”

The script is written by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspect, Valkyrie) and the production would have the same budget as Woo’s epic Red Cliff, around $80 Million. Head on over to Wiki to learn more about this Claire Lee Chennault dude that Cruise will be portraying in this movie.
