JUMPER Review

Jumper
What a shame! This movie has can become so much more and it has a very interesting concept plus a tasty visual treat and yet somehow it falls short. I don’t need to remind you again of how much I hate the Hayden Christensen’s acting. He’s still got his Annakin Skywalker character on, where he can’t show any emotion, none! If there was… an Oscar category for the best android-like performance, he’d win every year. To be fair, I think in his career so far, JUMPER is probably his most decent choice of project.

A young man (Hayden Christensen) discovers he has a gift that has been around in humanity for centuries, the ability to go anywhere at will. He uses the gift to live a luxurious life while at the same time trying to catch the heart of the girl he loves. They’re caught in the middle of a war raging between jumpers and those sworn to kill them.

The busiest man, Samuel L. Jackson seems to never stop working at all. He’ll say yes to the chance of working with some of the less talented actors in Hollywood. I’d probably do the same, not only cause I could use the pay check, I could use the pride out of schooling those punks with no experience and show ‘em how it’s done.
Sam Jackson’s performance as a bad guy in this movie is one of the few good things about JUMPER. It would’ve been better if he had been allowed to say his trademark words “Mothaf**ker”.
This is not the first time Sam played a bad guy on the screen, but a bad guy with a very white hair, makes the character stands out.

I like the visual effect. It’s pretty awesome. Parts where Hayden gets to go to any place in the world. When Jamie Bell and Hayden fight each other to get the detonator, they fight by jumping from one place to another. It’s pretty cool. I wish I had the ability to teleport myself. It’s the perfect superpower since I love traveling anyways, it’ll save me some money from having to pay the airline ticket.

Story-wise, it gets good at times and it gets really good at one point but the way it ends is too hasty, it could’ve been more epic. You sit there after the awesome action sequences and then find yourself say, “That’s it?” But I have a feeling that might be the intention of the movie, to attract audiences by showing what the characters can do.
This is the kind of movie that you just know they might make the sequel in the near future.

Now comes to the profound part. You heard me correctly.
This movie gives out the underlining message that we are all selfish human beings. If we have superpower, the first thing that would cross our minds is how we can use it to our advantage. There’s a scene in this movie where Hayden’s character watches the news about a flood happening in a third world region but he chooses not to jump over there and rescue those people. He doesn’t use his power for good.
Samuel Jackson’s character may be the bad guy and his whole team may seem like the evil ones in this movie but at the same time, they’re the ones who understand that people who have jumping abilities use it for selfish reason and so Sam’s determined that that kind of power is for God only to use, the One who knows best how to use it.

Overall, if you’re looking for an okay action movie that’s just entertaining, jump today to JUMPER.
