It’s been almost a decade since High Fidelity. And although the fans won’t get HIGH FIDELITY 2, we could at least get HIGH FIDELITY reunion. According to Hollywood Reporter, director Stephen Frears will be collaborating again with screenwriter D.V. DeVincentis for the adaptation of LAY THE FAVORITE, a dramedy for Focus Features, based on a geeky gambling memoir…

The story is an upcoming memoir titled LAY THE FAVORITE, TAKE THE DOG by Beth Raymer, the book is set to be published by Random House next Spring

Raymer’s memoir is set amid a group of fiftyish math geeks who figure out how to work the sportsbook system in Las Vegas for their own profit. It centers on a woman in her early thirties who has made a series of bad choices but achieves a redemption of sorts when she meets and then becomes involved with the gamblers.
“It’s a less violent, less sketchy version of the mob,” DeVincentis said of the colorful gamblers, who are based on real people. “This is the version of 50-year-old math geeks from Queens in basketball shorts who have pet guinea pigs.”

LAY THE FAVORITE and High Fidelity is said to have similarities in that both films deal with “the tribulations of adulthood as well as with the appeal and perils of living in an insular world”
So in a way, without stretching it too much, you can consider this to be some sort of HIGH FIDELITY sequel or a spin-off.
I wonder if John Cusack and Jack Black are interested in starring in this project.
