So what’s up with X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE? Not much really. We know a while back Producer Lauren Schuler Donner said it all depends on how well X-Men Origins: Wolverine would do and Bryan Singer at one point wanted to take on the project but thought he’d probably wanted to take a break from the Nazi or concentration camp world for a while. (Apt Pupil, X-Men, Valkyrie)
Screenwriter David Goyer gave this update to MTV sounding very hopeful about the prospect of a stand alone movie about the villain who could control electromagnetic force..
“They’re still thinking about doing it…They’re definitely looking into doing other X-Men spinoffs…
I’ve been in touch with them. I’m sure that project (Magneto) will move forward in the next year or so.”
Magneto was portrayed by the great Ian McKellen the previous 3 X-Men Films. Bryan Singer wants to return to that world but is actually only eyeing X-Men: First Class, written by Josh Schwartz.
With WOLVERINE IN JAPAN movie that’s going to happen starring Hugh Jackman, and DEADPOOL starring Ryan Reynolds, as much as I like the concept of seeing how the coolest villain came to be, I think it wouldn’t be as interesting as watching how the heroes, the good guys originated. Villains to me are more fun when they just show up creating havoc everywhere. I wouldn’t lose much if I didn’t know their background story, just like Heath Ledger’s Joker who had so many versions of how he got his scars.
