Surprise! Though previous rumor said the studio still wants Jackie Earle Haley to play Sinestro in the live action movie GREEN LANTERN starring Ryan Reynolds, but who does director Martin Campbell want for the role instead? How bout the Brit thesp that’s been in a number of notable movies lately, Mark Strong. Campbell told MTV that they’re in talks to get Strong to play Sinestro, and that Campbell’s never even heard of talks of getting Haley involved in the project, let alone to play Sinestro. No love for Haley?! that’s harsh, man!…
“No, that’s completely wrong,”
“In fact, we’re in negotiations with Mark Strong to play Sinestro.”
“He’s not only a wonderful actor, but he looks like Sinestro,”
“If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he’s very like him. The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life.”
Just the past couple of years, Mark Strong was in Stardust, Body Of Lies, Rocknrolla, The Young Victoria, Sherlock Holmes, this year he’s going to be seen in ROBIN HOOD, KICK-ASS, EAGLE OF THE NINTH, THE WAY BACK and he’s going to be in THE GUARD and JOHN CARTER OF MARS.
I remember sometime in the last decade when for some reason Jude Law kept showing up in a bunch of movies in the span of 2 years or so, now Hollywood wants a piece of Strong.
The casting call for Sinestro was looking for an actor in Mid-30s to Mid-40s, smart, tough, intimidating and in great physical shape.
Well, Strong fits perfectly in that category, alright… Sorry Haley, but you’re just going to have to make the best of Freddy Kruger for now.
Campbell didn’t stop there, he also blurred out more characters from GREEN LANTERN universe that will show up in the movie…

“Tomar-Re is in it. Sinestro is in it. Abin Sur is in it. All the origin people. Carol [Ferris], of course, who will be played by Blake Lively. All the main characters are there, and it’s a complex story. The origin story of Green Lantern is complex, probably one of the most complex, which makes it a challenge to get it right.”

Mark Strong was pretty badass in RocknRolla, and real good in Body of Lies. I’m glad this dude is getting a lot of roles lately cause i’d never seen him before until RocknRolla.
True… we’ll see how long his popularity lasts.
playing bad guys in every movie… one of them is bound to give him an Oscar.. who knows
