I really can’t take James Marsden seriously in that outfit. But his new gig will demand him to be serious. According to Hollywood Reporter, Marsden has signed on to star in the remake thriller STRAW DOGS for Screen Gems. The 1971 original version was directed by the late great Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Bunch) starring Dustin Hoffman and Susan George as a couple who move rural England and face increasingly vicious local harassment.
Back then, Dustin Hoffman was on top of the world (The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy)
The new version will have Marsden play the same character, David Sumner, but instead of England, he and his wife will move to the deep South where the tension in their marriage will get worse and old conflicts with the locals will lead to violent confrontation. Written and directed by Rod Lurie (Resurrecting the Champ)
