Way before that silly rumor about Will Smith playing Captain America, back in May, there was a rumor that said that Matthew McConaughey might be the one to play the superhero in the upcoming Marvel movie that’s supposed to be released by 2011.
McConaughey hasn’t said anything about it ever since, so when he talked to MTV News, I thought his response was a bit shocking but I’m sure he’s just jokin’… he basically claimed he’s never ever heard of Captain America…
“I was?” he asked, adding that he “wasn’t a big comic book reader, but that’s a super cool name — Captain America.”
To be fair, he IS a big fan of one particular comic superhero but not because he read the comic books when he was younger, it was the old popular TV version of the character that made him a fan.
“My favorite one growing up has already been done twice and that was The Incredible Hulk,” said McConaughey, who had fond memories of Lou Ferrigno’s turn as the Green Goliath during the 1978-1982 television series.
“Lou Ferringo would come on, and it was an hour show, [so] you knew he was gonna turn green [and] get big, two times in that hour,” said McConaughey. “So at 7:22 you knew he’d do it, and at 7:39 you knew he’d do it — so if you were going to go make a milkshake or something, you better be back by 7:22 or 7:39, ’cause he was about to turn green.”
He even remembers the minute and second that Lou Ferrigno turned into the Hulk?! Now that’s a fanatic.
Ok, so he’s denied the CAPTAIN AMERICA rumor,…. but do you think he could play a convincing Bruce Banner, as opposed to Edward Norton or Eric Bana?
