Holy smokes, what is up with the adaptation of the graphic novel RED, no problem or anything but it keeps getting award worthy actors as easy as 1, 2, 3. They’ve got Bruce Willis as the star along with Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John C. Reilly, Mary Louise Parker and Hollywood Reporter says 4 more have joined the cast and they’re heavyweight names as well..
Just to recap, Here’s the official synopsis of the graphic novel.. “Paul Moses is a man with too much blood on his hands. For years, masquerading as a low-level clerk, he has travelled the world as a CIA agent, coldly and mercilessly killing Americażs enemies. Now, Moses is old, retired, and wants nothing more than to grow oldand die in peace. But when a new, politically-appointed CIA director discovers Mosesż existence and history, he gives the order for Mosesż death, setting a chain of events in motion that nobody could have predicted…
Willis would portray Moses who has gone into retirement but is forced back into action when a high-tech assassin comes a-callin’ to threaten him and his girlfriend. He must fight a hit team sent by the new leader of the CIA (Freeman) who wants to clean up loose ends i.e. former agents like Moses who know too much. Mirren plays an old associate with a lethal set of skills. Reilly is set to play “a retired CIA agent who is paranoid that everyone is out to kill him” and Parker would play Willis’ “romantic interest, a federal pension worker who becomes embroiled in Moses’s struggle to stay alive.”
Julian McMahon (TV’s Nip/Tuck, Fantastic Four) will play a Vice President with a dark side who is at the center of a shadow conspiracy. Richard Dreyfuss will play a wealthy man who builds a fortune out of lucrative government contracts. Brian Cox will play a former a former Cold War spy and Willis’ nemesis. Last but not least, the actor that I can’t believe is still alive today, the legendary Ernest Borgnine (From Here To Eternity) will play the keeper of the CIA’s darkest records
I said before that I couldn’t wait to see who they’ll hire to play the younger assassins out to hunt down Willis’ character but haven’t heard much about that part so I’m guessing they’re probably going to cast a bunch of non-famous actors.
But with those 4 new additions we can tally up the awards.. RED so far has a talent group of 4 Oscar Winners, 1 Oscar nominee, 2 Golden Globe winners and 2 Golden Globe nominees, fascinating!
