Last year in September, when it was announced that Tobey and Raimi return for SPIDERMAN 4 and 5 projects, the rumors about which character will be the next villain were surrounding The Lizard and Man-Wolf. I don’t like the selections either but those were the possibilities.
Sam Raimi, however, apparently has another plan. He spoke to Empire Magazine, wanting MORBIUS to be the next villain..
“I like it in the Marvel comics when Spider-Man fights Morbius… A vampire! I like that combination of superhero plus supernatural.”
Raimi knows a thing or two or a bunch about Supernatural. That’s actually his cup of tea. He was responsible for The Evil Dead franchise and he’s helped produce horror flicks over the recent years (The Grudge, 30 Days of Night), but his upcoming one, Drag Me To Hell, is laughable.
So who’s Morbius? well, it’s actually Dr. Michael Morbius, the biochemist who at one point tried to cure himself of a rare blood disease with an experimental treatment involving vampire bats and electroshock therapy. But the results was a far worse side effect than he anticipated, he developed vampiric abilities.
Ok, now that we’ve established the fact that Morbius is not Morpheus long lost cousin. Is having Morbius as the villain in SPIDERMAN 4 a good idea? I think having SPIDERMAN 4 is already a bad idea as it is.
If only there was some way to revamp the mistakes that Spiderman 3 made with Venom, because Venom is such an awesome villain who didn’t get a decent big screen treatment, Topher Grace was f*in’ joke!
